STI Swab Collection Kit Instructions

Handling Precautions

• Do not pre-wet collection swab with the collection fluid (in the tube) or any other liquid before obtaining the vaginal sample.
• Do not discard the collection fluid
• There are 2 swabs in the collection kit - A and B
• Use swab A (thick one) and discard swab B (thin one)

Instructions

1. Collect: Insert the swab about 5cms into the vaginal opening.

• Gently turn the swab for 30 seconds whilst rubbing the swab along the walls of the vagina.
• Remove the swab
• Do not let the swab touch any surface before placing it into the collection tube

2. Remove the cap from the tube.

•  Lower the swab into the tube until the visible score line on the swab is aligned with the rim.

3. Break: Carefully press the swab against the rim to break the swab at the score line.

4. Close: Tightly re-cap the tube. Discard the top portion of the swab and discard swab B.
