CHATDOC FAQs
Q: What’s changing, and when does it happen?
A: As of Thursday 26th June, we’ve moved from AskMyGP to ChatDoc, a new system that allows you to contact the surgery using WhatsApp. You can now message us between 7am and 1pm (an increase in our current opening times), Monday to Friday, to request an appointment, ask a question, or get support.
We’ve made this change to improve access for patients and make it easier to reach us, with no extra paperwork and less waiting around for answers.
Q. What if I don’t use WhatsApp or don’t have a computer or smartphone?
A: As most of our patients will be using WhatsApp, this will mean our phone lines will be more available for vulnerable patients or those who do not have access to a smart phone or computer
Q: What is ChatDoc and how does it work?
A: ChatDoc is a new way to contact us using WhatsApp, the messaging app many people already use every day.
You can send us a message through WhatsApp on your computer or phone, during our contact hours (7am to 1pm, Monday to Friday) to request an appointment or ask a question. Your message will be seen by our team, who will triage it and aim to respond within 48 hours, often with no need to call or come in.
Q: Do I need to sign up or re-register?
A: No, there’s nothing new to sign up for, and you don’t need to re-register as a patient.
If you already use WhatsApp, you’re good to go. Just send us a message using the same number as before 0161 368 3312 or via the booking link on our website, and our team will be on hand to help.
Q: What if I don’t use WhatsApp or don’t have a computer or smartphone?
A: That’s absolutely fine, you can still call us on the usual surgery number during our contact hours.
We know that not everyone has access to a computer or smartphone, or wants to use WhatsApp, so we’ll continue to offer support over the phone. Whatever method you use, our team will make sure your request is handled in the same way.
Q: When hours can I contact the surgery now?
A: You can now contact us between 7am and 1pm, Monday to Friday, in two ways:
Message us on WhatsApp using our usual surgery number 0161 368 3312
Or call us directly on the same number if you prefer to speak to someone
You’ll get the same support whichever option you choose; we just want to make things easier for patients who prefer to use messaging and avoid the waiting time if there is a queue on the phone.
Q: Do I need to download new anything to use ChatDoc?
A: If you already use WhatsApp on your phone or computer, you don’t need to do anything, just send us a message like you would to a friend or family member.
If you don’t have WhatsApp yet, you can download it for free from your app store or install it via the link on our website. Once it’s installed, you’ll be able to contact us using the same surgery number as before.
Q: What are the new booking hours for appointments?
A: Our new contact hours are 7am to 1pm, Monday to Friday (apart from training days once a month on a Thursday afternoon))
That means you’ll have more time each day to request an appointment, ask a question, or get support from our team. It’s a step up from the previous 7–11am window, and we’re continuing to look at ways we can improve access for all patients.
Q: What if I need help outside of those hours?
A: Until further notice, our availability for requests will be from 7am to 1pm Monday to Friday.
For anything urgent outside of surgery hours, please contact NHS 111 (available 24/7) or 999 if you have a life-threatening emergency.
We’re working hard to ensure more requests are answered earlier in the day, helping us prioritise urgent cases and reduce wait times for everyone.
Q: Do I need to change my details with the surgery to use the new system?
A: No. You don’t need to sign up, create a new account, or re-register with the surgery.
You’ll just use our usual surgery number to contact us via WhatsApp, or continue calling us if that’s what you prefer. It’s the same care, just with a simpler and more flexible way to reach us, and extended hours.
Still need help? We’re switching to ChatDoc because we want to make it easier for our patients to reach us.
With fewer forms, no new accounts, and better triaging behind the scenes, we can respond to more patients and help reduce the pressure on our phone lines. Most people already use WhatsApp, so it made sense to bring our care to where you already are.
If aren’t sure how to access it just whatsapp us on 0161 368 3312 or just head to our website homepage, the booking link will always take you straight to the right place.
And if you’re still unsure or have any more questions, please don’t worry, our team are here to help, and you can always call us for support.
